Paraskevidekatriaphobia! (Thoughts that make me go hmmm.)

Yikes!  There will be a spelling test at the end of this post.  Today is one of those unlucky Friday the 13th.  We already had one in April so we are twice unlucky this year.  Next year there is only one in June so we are lucky there.  In 2009 and 2012 there are three Friday the 13ths so we are in extra big trouble in those years.  Might want to plan ahead.  Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were born on Friday the 13th in 1986, so now you know why…

There are multiple theories for how Fridays that fall on the 13th of the month got to be unlucky, one has to do with The Last Supper Jesus had with His disciples, thought popularly to be on a Thursday.  There were 13 guests at the table and the crucifixion was on Friday and… I don’t get it either.  If you have absolutely nothing else going today you can read more about Friday the 13th here.

Friday the 13th is also sometimes called Black Friday, which has to do with all kinds of bad things that have happened on Friday.  Things like the biggest shopping day of the year the day after Thanksgiving.  If you need more you can find it here.

Paraskevidekatriaphobia?  Took Greek in seminary so here is the answer: It is a combination of three Greek words, Παρασκευή, δεκατρείς, and φοβία. They mean Friday, thirteen and phobia respectively. Cool, eh?

Impress all your friends today with paraskevidekatriaphobia.  Can you spell it?  Have a fun filled Friday the 13th.

By the way, I don’t believe in luck I believe in Jesus.
