Redding, RV-Dreams, Bethel, Lee Akin and McCombs (in-n-out, too)

Redding, California

When I got up this morning it was a balmy 75, headed for a high of 85-90.  It is beautiful here.  Linda and I really like Redding, having spent 3-4 days here last January.  Mountains, rivers, Shasta Lake and lots of sun.  Great place to live, eh, Pastor Burt!  It is also home to the first In-N-Out Burger you come to from the North.

Linda’s post, yesterday, on life and ministry in a fifth wheel, generated a fair amount of traffic and comments.  There seems to be a draw in people to simplify and get free to do what they are called to when the Spirit calls.  Living without the big house and all that stuff is a very hard thing for people to comprehend but when we talk about the way we live, many more are intrigued by it then put off by it.  Linda will be writing more on the subject as we hit the road again in June.

If you are interested in the lifestyle of simplification and downsizing and living life in a RV, there is a wonderful website and journal written and mastered by Howard Payne.  RV-Dreams has been in my favorites for nearly all of the two years he has been on line and I read it everyday.  I share so many of Howard’s views about life and we are both married to Lindas and after reading his stuff nearly everyday, while we have never met, I consider him a close friend.  We hope to connect some day, down the road.  Yesterday, was their two year anniversary of breaking free.  Congratulations, Howard and Linda!

Spend some time on Howard and Linda’s site and you will be ready to sell it all and get out here!

I am in Redding to visit Bethel Church and their School of Supernatural Ministry.  Our friend, Pastor Andy Taylor from Trinity Fellowship in Oklahoma asked me to come and check it out in anticipation of beginning a similar school in Sayre.  I will be visiting classes, meeting with leaders and attending services over the next few days.  I am really pumped about the opportunity.  There has been a massive move of the Spirit in and through this church and I am excited to touch a little of it this week.

A brief update on two friends.  Several weeks ago I wrote a piece on Lee Akin, the PBR cowboy hurt in a wreck with a bull. After several weeks in an Alabama hospital he was able to be moved to a hospital in Oklahoma City, which is not far from their home. This will certainly make it easier for Mary.  While he is much improved and the Father has done many miracles already, there is much yet to do.  So as Todd says, “we can’t stop praying yet!”  Intermittent updates on Lee and Mary can be found on Todd’s site.

Our friends Bill and Leslee McComb are finally in Phoenix on their trip to take Kaylee and the boys to their new home.  Rand has been there a couple of weeks without them and it will be good for this young family to get started with their new life. It wasn’t going to be easy for them to adjust to a big move and job change before Kaylee lost her brother, and now that will be compounded by her grieving.  If you ever were needed to pray for someone it is surely Kaylee and Rand.

Bill and Leslee will start their trip back soon.  They are very wounded people and recovery from this loss will be a lot longer than any of us would like.  Think of having an arm or a leg amputated and how long it would take to get used to living without a limb.  It is a lot like that.  Pray for them too.  They are going to be alone for the first time since Willie died and that will be a huge adjustment for them.

Don’t forget Rachel, Royal and Jayden, Joanna, Jon and Jordan.  These are young people and young families who are reeling from this loss too.  While they will grieve differently than their parents, they still suffered a huge loss which will cause all kinds of fear, confusion and anger and the potential for major depression.  Watching their parents suffer just adds to what they are dealing with.  Pray against this stuff, it really is part of the enemies calculated attempt to lie, steal and destroy.

I am off for an In-N-Out Burger.  I plan to have one for you Pastor Burt!
